Work Related Disorders
With advancing technology and increased automation, individuals are spending more time at their workstation. The corresponding increase in prolonged sitting subjects the body to additional strain and as a consequence health and safety issues have become a real concern.
Prolonged sitting with poor posture can place stress and strain on muscles, joints, ligaments and nerves in the neck, upper back and shoulders. If allowed to continue this may cause eventual breakdown of the tissue causing pain, swelling, muscle spasm and weakness.
The aims of physiotherapy in this area are to reduce pain, improve posture, educate and rehabilitate. Occasionally workstation assessments may need to be carried out by our Consultant Ergonomists.
