Acupuncture and Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists offer a wide range of treatment methods and may combine acupuncture treatment to complement other modalities including manual therapy, exercise therapy or electrotherapy.
Acupuncture does not work for all conditions or patients but research shows that pain relief is achieved by 70% of patients treated when conventional medicine has not worked. The response rates for acupuncture vary; some patients respond quickly while others require a few treatments before the cumulative benefits are felt (more commonly with a chronic condition).
It should be noted that sometimes the symptoms appear to become a little worse to start with. This however is not normally a worsening of the condition.
Acupuncture can help with the following conditions:
- muscle & joint problems
- acute/chronic injuries
- pain, nausea, dizziness
- arthritis & rheumatism
- back & neck pain
- sports injuries
- headaches
Safety and Hygiene
Acupuncture is safe when carried out by physiotherapists at Milligan & Hill as they are all AACP members who are trained to use the stricktest hygiene and only use disposable pre-sterilised needles.
In response to patients most commonly asked question " Will acupuncture hurt?" we advise that at most a slight sensation of discomfort may be experienced as the fine needles are inserted but this feeling should not last. Occasionally a greater sensation may be felt which is believed to signify the movement of energy.
Side effects are rare but if you have any concerns please speak to your physiotherapist. |
